We're 10 years old!!!!
DID YOU KNOW - THE BSS FOREST SCHOOL TEAM have been established for over 10 YEARS!!!!
Here at the BSS Forest School team, we're keen to celebrate working with children and Schools for over 10 YEARS!!! That's 10 years of getting more people outside, connecting with themselves, each other and the great outdoors! With a 4-strong team of qualified and experienced practitioners, running weekly Forest School sessions, CPD for practitioners, Networks, INSET days and much more, we've become a HUB for all things Forest School in the Northwest.
In 2009, a Behaviour Support Teacher based in the Behaviour Support Service began their Forest School training and used this approach as part of a projects to aid transition with some KS2 - KS3 pupils. Impressed by the impact the sessions had, it was decided to trial running more sessions not only with children at risk of exclusion, but to a whole host of children across both mainstream and specialist settings, including primary and secondary schools. Since then we have grown the team of Forest School practitioners delivering sessions across the borough of Stockport and beyond, both on school sites and in wilder, wooded settings. We are in a privileged position, operating out of a wider team of educational expertise and practice as well as being funded by the local authority, which means we can retain ethical practice within our service in terms of offering long term, regular sessions that endeavour to connect children to nature and themselves.
In addition to weekly sessions, the team also deliver regular CPD training opportunities for Forest School practitioners and have established a Forest School NETWORK for local practitioners to keep in touch and connect with one another. We also provide whole staff INSET days and Forest School experience days for classes, as well as consultancy packages. We continue to work with a wide range of local settings and people, with the ability to offer a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Since 2009 we have worked with children from Nursery to Key Stage 5, in woodland and school setting, including many longer term projects, nurturing improved resilience, problem solving skills, increased self esteem, creative and independent learners.
We believe in providing 'full fat' Forest School which is driven by the distinct principles and ethos of Forest School. The affective impact on pupils' personal development is the key, regardless of the type of client group we would work with.
